Should I buy a fancy camera?  Is my cell phone camera good enough to get great photos and videos?  How will I carry around all of this extra gear?  These are the things most people ask themselves when going on a trip of a lifetime or just a weekend excursion with their family.  Although I don’t have the exact answer for these questions I can give you a look at what I carry with me whenever I head out on an adventure.

First off the most important tool in my bag is a  DSLR camera.  I had settled for using my iphone for many years and just recently moved up to a more professional way to capture my images.  A  DSLR camera with just a few lenses will change the way you view photography forever!

Let’s start with my camera, the Canon 80D.  I purchased the camera in a bundle package that included four lenses and the camera bag which I am also using.  This has everything you need to start taking some great photos.  The lenses included in the bundle are an 18-55mm  which has built in image stabilization which also makes it a great lens for filming videos, a 75-300mm telephoto lens which is perfect for zooming in to get better shots of wildlife, a 50mm fixed lens which is a must have for all serious photographers and a  500mm T-mount lens which I do not carry with me but can utilize in the future.

These lenses are all of the “kit lens” variety but perform great nonetheless.  Look around at prices for some of the more professional lenses and you will see what I mean.  I also recently picked up a Canon EF-S 10-18mm lens which is a good wide angle lens for landscape photography.

Next up in my bag is the GoPro HERO6 Black.  This little action camera is awesome!  It can come with you anywhere and everywhere that your cell phone can’t.  Mount it on a kayak, a bicycle, the hood of your car, yourself, or anywhere else you can think of to get the coolest videos without worrying about your phone getting destroyed!

GoPro along with many other third party companies have an endless variety of accessories to help you shoot the action.  The mounts that I use most are the floating hand grip, a must have in the water.  A backpack clip that easily attaches to the shoulder strap of my bag or hiking pack.  The GoPro 3-Way Grip which is a sort of selfie stick for the camera and the GoPro Suction Cup Mount which comes in handy for your vehicle.

I also always have my DJI Mavic Air on the ready to get some spectacular footage or photos from high above.  I will have a full video review up soon so stop back and check it out!

Tripods are a must have as well and I carry this Benro Slim  on the side of my bag when needed, otherwise this Manfrotto Mini Tripod is super quick and easy and works great with the GoPro or a cell phone.

I recently picked up a Zoom H1n Handy Recorder, a compact audio recorder and it is great for capturing sounds of wildlife and nature.  It also gets used for voice over editing of videos  that I create.

Lastly, the essential items have to fit in the bag.  Charging cords, extra batteries, SD cards and camera lens cleaning tools.  Now zip up that bag and head out on your adventure!
