-Red Cedar State Trail Biking-

Western Wisconsin is loaded with great bike trails and the Red Cedar State Trail is a favorite of ours.   A short drive to Menomonie brings us to the northern trailhead parking lot located along Highway 29.  The cost of a daily pass is $5 per person or $25 annually.  Fees are currently being waived due to covid-19.  Check the official website for up to date info here.

Made up mostly of crushed limestone, the trail follows the Red Cedar River for a total of 14.5 miles.  The southernmost end of the trail connects to the Chippewa State Trail near the confluence of the two rivers.  As you follow the trail you will pass by Irvington and into Downsville.  Here is a good spot to take a break and decide if you want to pedal forward to the Dunnville Bottoms.

Continuing on from Downsville toward the  Dunnville State Wildlife Area the trail leads through wooded wetlands and cropland.  At the end of the journey an old trestle bridge allows you to cross the Chippewa River and enjoy a great view!

So, whether you prefer a short ride along the river or 29 miles of adventure, the Red Cedar State trail is for you!

Below is a short video we made during our recent ride here filmed with an Insta 360 One X and Mavic Air drone.
