-Old Abe State Trail-

Saturday, May 2nd 2020. Perfect weather for a spring bike ride. North we go to Jim Falls to pedal along on another top Wisconsin trail.

Old Abe State Trail follows the Chippewa River from Lake Wissota to Brunet Island State Park in Cornell. This 20 mile section of the Chippewa Valley trail system will soon connect over 80 miles of trails from Cornell to Durand.

Our ride started at the town hall parking lot in Jim Falls.  There’s plenty of parking space and the Cenex store is close by if you’re in need of a restroom.

Riding northward the trail runs along the edge of Old Abe Lake.  The blacktop trail makes for a smooth and easy ride.  A cooling breeze blowing across the lake refreshes the senses.

Further north along this scenic trail you will pass by a few ponds and over a neat old wooden bridge.

At the 5 mile mark you will find the historic Cobban bridge. The bridge is no longer in use due to structural safety concerns but is interesting enough to warrant an up close viewing.

In short the Old Abe Trail is perfect for anybody on a bike or by foot.  You could pack a lunch and have a picnic or bring your fishing gear and catch your dinner!

Next up on our list of adventures is Brunet Island State Park.  Stay tuned for it in our next post!
